Why CleverCompare

Why use CleverCompare to compare UK financial products?

Designed for borrowers whose situations don't fit a one-size-fits-all comparison table.

Whole-of-panel search

We compare across 50+ specialist UK lenders — not a fixed shortlist — so we can find a match for straightforward and complex cases alike.

Soft-search at this stage

Initial eligibility checks use soft searches that don't leave a footprint on your credit file. A hard search only happens when you formally apply.

Specialists for tricky cases

Self-employed, recent credit issues, non-standard property or unusual income? We work with lenders who price these cases properly.

Free to compare

Our comparison service is free to use. Any lender or broker fees are disclosed up front, so the total cost of finance is clear before you commit.

Specialist UK lender panel

Rates from specialist lenders, not just the high street

We compare across 50+ UK lenders covering prime, near-prime and adverse credit cases. That includes specialist banks for self-employed borrowers, second-charge mortgage lenders, bridging providers and protection insurers.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions about CleverCompare

Everything you might want to know before you start an enquiry.

What can I compare on CleverCompare?

CleverCompare brings six specialist financial products into one place: secured loans, mortgages (purchase, remortgage and buy to let), bridging finance, equity release, income protection and life assurance. You start with a short eligibility check for the product you're interested in, and we match you to suitable lenders from our panel.

Will checking my eligibility affect my credit score?

Our initial eligibility checks are typically soft searches that leave no footprint on your credit file — visible only to you. A full credit search will only be run when you formally apply, and we'll always make that clear before it happens.

Is CleverCompare a lender?

No. CleverCompare is an introducer — we do not lend money ourselves and we do not make lending decisions. We introduce you to lenders and advisers through our network, including Charles Frank Finance, who handle the underwriting and any regulated advice.

Are there fees for using CleverCompare?

Our comparison service is free to use. If you proceed with a product we introduce you to, there may be lender, broker or valuation fees — these will always be clearly disclosed before you commit so you can see the total cost of finance.

How does CleverCompare make money?

We're paid an introducer fee by the lender or broker if your application completes. Our fee does not change the rate you're offered — lender pricing is set by the lender's own criteria and your circumstances.

Can I get a loan or mortgage with bad credit?

Often, yes. Our lender panel includes specialists who price for adverse credit — including defaults, CCJs, missed payments and historic IVAs. Outcomes depend on the product, the security and the recency of any issues. We'll be straight with you about what's realistic before you apply.

Which lenders do you work with?

We compare across 50+ UK lenders, including names like Together, Pepper Money, Norton Finance and other specialist banks and building societies. The right lender for you depends on the product, your loan size, your credit profile and the security involved.

How long does an enquiry take?

Most eligibility checks take under 5 minutes. Bridging decisions in principle can come back in 24–48 hours. Mortgages and secured loans vary by lender and complexity — your adviser will give you a realistic timeline at the start.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Your information is only shared with lenders and advisers relevant to your enquiry, and only with your consent. We follow UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. You can read our privacy policy for the full detail.
